The science of metal-on-metal articulation

Recently there has been a heightened interest in metal-on-metal (MOM) articulations for both total hip replacement and articular surface replacement. Clinical results to date have been favourable; with low wear rates. The following pages discuss the factors relating to the wear of MOM articulations and how these can be optimised.
